Religious School

Bet Chaverim’s religious school is small but mighty.  Our goal is to provide a foundation of Jewish education by teaching children about Jewish holidays, practices, and core values.   At religious school they have the opportunity to meet and form relationships with other Jewish children which is crucial to forming a strong Jewish identity and instilling pride in being Jews.

Our kabbalat Shabbat (welcoming the Sabbath) instills the traditions of our weekly holiday, and hands-on projects such as baking challah, designing challah covers and Kiddush cups which personalize the Shabbat experience.

All major holidays are covered through stories, songs, art projects, and participation in traditions such as introspection during the High Holidays, a Purim shpiel (play) and Purim mishloach manot (basket of gifts of sweets or other food), and personal interpretation of the Ten Commandments for Shavuot.  Children learn the Hebrew alphabet and words through songs and games.

At the end of each class the children interact with the rabbi and participants in the Torah Study group to strengthen the bond of community.  As a small congregation, our one-room schoolhouse approach to religious school is fun and creates strong relationships in our community.
